When Winston Churchill spoke of the few that gave so much, he was referring to the R.A.F. pilots in their Spitfires. Originally a seaplane, the Spitfire won a competition to become the R.A.F.'s number one fighter. It proved to be more than a match for the best that Germany could muster. Its kill ratio was 10 to 1 in the skies over England. Features: Detailed cockpit area, landing gear, waterslide decals. This Revell model kit #85-5239 is skill level 4 and recommended for ages 12 and up. The 1:48 scale car consists of 34-pieces and comes with detailed assembly instructions. Paint and glue not included.

The Supermarine Spitfire was the British Royal Air Force's premiere fighter during most of WWII and, with the Hawker Hurricane, formed the backbone of defense against the German Luftwaffe during the Battle of Britain.     The model is rather small but when finished it looks good. Be careful not to put parts near heat because they can melt rather quickly. I have noticed that the price of plastic and/or wood models has increased dramatically. I used outdoor enamel in little jars which you can get at Michaels. The jars cost about $1.00 each. It is less messy to use and easy to clean up.

    Although I hate working with models smaller than 1/32 scale, I am starting to enjoy the challenges associated with detailing smaller scales. It is important to remember one important fact when buying a model kit; the higher the number the smaller the size. 1/32 is bigger than 1/48 and 1/72 is smaller than 1/48. I typically choose the scale for the type of model I build, i.e.: cars & trucks are 1/6, 1/24, 1/25, 1/32; military are either 1/35 or 1/48; ships are usually 1/350. Also the scale of the models reflects the actual size of you subject matter: cars, trucks, tanks, aircraft carriers. The smallest scales are best when building dioramas and model railroading.

    This model is NOT 1:48 scale as advertised!! It's even smaller that other 1:72 models I have built. Parts do not fit right. You will have to use putty to patch up gaps between the fuselage and the wing assembly no matter how much you try to make them fit properly. Some of the detail pieces are SO SMALL it is difficult to make them fit properly even with magnifiers and tweezers. I have had decent Revell models in the past but this is just flimsy junk and I build a lot of planes. Also don't waste time detailing the cockpit. You really can't see anything in there once the 3 piece canopy is glued on. Also, the back third piece of the canopy does not fit right. It's only 34 pieces but you will have to spend considerable time getting it to fit right before wanting to just tossing it into the trash. Dont trust models coming out of China with their false advertising. It's NOT 1:72 it even seems SMALLER than that!
