I've always worn better than average shoes. When you wear size 8, you need good shoes. Anyway, one day I went berserk and bought a pair of
Allen Edmonds Men's Carlyle Oxford. They were comfortable from minute #1 and I haven't regretted the purchase for even a second. When I switched to my old good shoes for a week -- WOW what a difference. The Allen Edmonds shoes were much better. I now own two pairs and they are both great. I alternate them each day and use shoe trees at night -- both practices are highly recommended. One other note: Allen Edmonds shoe polish is excellent. I was using the brand you get at the grocery store and what a noticeable difference it makes to use the Allen Edmonds Premium Shoe Polish. Not sure why, but it is much better stuff. Bottom line: If you need excellent black dress shoes that are comfortable enough to wear for long days including long treks through airports, I highly recommend these. As for the price ... How much do you spend for tires on your car? My last set cost $500. I decided that I am worth $300 for awesome shoes.

Shoes had inconsistent black shoe coloring/polish around the sole. Fit was tight, more than what i would have expected. The shine on the leather was a bit more muted than what was anticipated.
I did order another pair (light reddish brown) at the same time but this other pair came in a different box, each shoe had its own bag and the quality seemed much better. Fit was also more on par as to what was expected for this particular shoe brand.

These are my favorite Allen Edmonds shoes that I own. I have a few pairs and my other ones all have some small thing that I don't love (a little squeaking, a little pinching, etc.) but that has been slowly improving with time. These on the other hand were absolutely perfect from the get go and after a few months of wearing still feel absolutely perfect. I all really enjoy the clean lines of not having a cap-toe or brogue on the toe. It will probably show more creasing because of this, but I'm fine with that.
