More expensive than I think it should be, but glad I have it!
Yes, it smells like Old Spice. Do I know the scent difference of Old Spice in the 60s versus Old Spice in the 80s? No. While I was growing up my dad’s only scent was Old Spice, and this reminds me of that. Mission accomplished. Lather feels slick on the face, no discomfort, scent strength is subtle enough that it’s not nauseating but subtle enough that I want more scent strength. ALSO, I have a vintage Old Spice coffee mug from a 1984 gift set, it’s much bigger than the typical milk glass mugs and this puck fits PERFECTLY!My only gripe; price on Mama Bear’s website it’s $10.99 for the puck, and $12.99 for the puck in a plastic tub. On Amazon it’s $13.99 for just the puck, and arter shipping I paid little under $19 for a puck - that’s a lot for a soap whose only packaging is vacuum sealed plastic wrap. I didn’t realize this until after but had I ordered on their website I would have paid $11.99 - after shipping! I’m guessing the extra $2 has a very good reason, but I don’t know it, and i don’t like it. Why’s it not Prime (free shipping), don’t know, don’t like it. So docking a star for the price incongruity and because I do wish the scent strength was just a notch stronger on an otherwise stellar product filling a much-loved niche in the wet shaving community.

Great soap that lathers up nicely. A puck will last you about 5 months, at least for me. The smell is pure Old Spice flash back, not too strong yet has that classic clean old school scent I grew up with, - love it. If your using an original Shulton (glass?) shaving cup, it's a tight fit. No problem, just place the Mama Bear puck on top and microwave it for 20 seconds, - it'll drop right in and level off to a perfect fit. Like it was custom made for it.
I have not perceived any lost of fragrance or ability to lather up doing this. Now the real old porcelain Old Spice cups, I cant speak for how well they would survive a nuking.
Now if your into fancy packaging and clever marketing, then Mama Bear might not be for you. Very simplistic shrink wrapping, no individual box for each puck, and a funky label that looks like you or I printed it off our home printer. To me at least, it tells me they rely on the quality of the product and word of mouth.
If all you care about is a nice lather, cool scent of yesteryear, and a quality shaving soap, then I highly recommend Mama Bear.
